Great art, music, drama and family events happen every day in Detroit during the Summer and Fall. These classic Detroit events are personal favorites. Feel free to recommend anything I may have missed.
Every day throughout the summer – RiverWalk: Cafe & Carousel – The Cafe and Carousel are open daily from 11am until 8pm throughout the week and until 10pm on Friday and Saturday. You can rent bicycles at Wheelhouse Detroit between 10am – 8pm. The RiverWalk is open daily from 6am – 10pm. HEIDELBERG PROJECT – DOTS: Dancin’ on the Street
Saturday, August 14th – The Heidelberg Project‘s 2010 festival starts at 12pm – rain or shine. Admission is free. This year’s festival features live music and street performers. Scheduled musicians include Sun Messengers, the amazingly talented Nadir, and Mark Flash. There will be plenty of kids’ activities (of course!) and lots of great food from area restaurants. If you’ve never visited this Detroit landmark, the Dancin’ on the Street festival is a great introduction to the project. If you’ve driven through and taken a few photos but haven’t really spent the day at the HP, you’ll definitely find it worthwhile to join in this celebration of Detroit artists. Don’t know how to find The Heidelberg Project? Mapquest to the rescue!
DALLY IN THE ALLEY
Saturday, September 11th – Forest and Hancock alleys, Detroit – the 33rd annual Dally will feature local artists and musicians. Great food from Metro Detroit restaurants is available on-site. The high energy and camaraderie of this annual gathering can’t be duplicated, and once it’s over you’ll have to wait an entire year before you can experience it again — don’t miss out! Detailed artist and vendor information is coming to their website soon.
